When is the best time to travel to Mexico?
Defining the best time to go to Mexico is like asking yourself what you want to discover and do there. If you absolutely want to see the phenomenon of bioluminescence in Holbox, you will have to come between May and September even if it is sometimes observable all year long except on full moon nights. If you want to swim with the whale sharks, you will have to come from June to mid-September while to swim with the bulldog sharks it will be between November and March! Even if the rainy season from June to October and the hurricane season from July to September should slow down the visits during these periods, it is quite possible to enjoy the Riviera Maya during these periods. The sites will be less crowded than during the high season in April (Holy Week) and during the Christmas school vacations for example. In any case, the weather in Mexico is beautiful all year round with a significant heat wave from May to September and you will have in any case wonders to discover no matter the season you choose to visit. So what are you looking to experience in Mexico?
Is it possible to travel to Mexico?
Traveling to Mexico has always been possible. The Covid 19 restrictions there have been the least stringent in the world and no tests, vaccinations or other documents are required to travel there to this day. Regarding security at the destination, it is important to keep in mind that crime is a scourge that affects every country in the world. Each country deals with these situations to a greater or lesser degree, but what is certain is that tourists are safe in Mexico. The destination cannot afford to lose this most important economic post. Of course, the same precautions should be taken as everywhere in the world in terms of security. Contrary to popular belief, Mexico is not more dangerous than anywhere else.
Where to go in Mexico for a week?
Mexico is a big country. It represents 4 times the size of France! Coming from Europe, it is clearly not advisable to come for a week only because the time difference of 6/7 hours and the long transportation time (about 12 hours on average), will give you very little time to really appreciate the wonders that Mexico has to offer. A two-week trip is highly recommended, even if the ideal is to travel for a month in order to get the most out of the country. For travelers who still want to go for a week, in the Yucatan / Quintana Roo region, you should not miss the site of Chichen Itza, historical testimony of the Mayan civilization and Isla Mujeres for the beauty of the place. Swimming with turtles in Akumal or discovering the exceptional marine life of Cozumel will also be a must in this region of Mexico as well as the discovery of cenotes. Mexico has 8 regions, if you choose to start with other regions than Yucatan, you should not miss Teotihuacan near Mexico City, Cholula near Puebla, Tequila near Guadalajara, the state of Chiapas with San Cristobal de las Casas, Comitan, the site of Palenque or sumptuous cities like Oaxaca, San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Zacatecas, Cuatrocienegas, Xilitla and more. As you can see, in one week you will only see the bare minimum.
What are the requirements to go to Mexico?
To travel to Mexico, you will need a valid passport as in all countries of the world. The FMM form normally sent on the plane as a tourist visa has been abolished since August 2022 in order to favor stamps on passports. The entry formalities are therefore quite low for travelers coming from Europe, Canada or the United States. Do not hesitate to consult the Mexican embassy in your country of residence for any clarification. Mexico is one of the few countries that did not introduce formalities following the Covid 19 pandemic, which made it the most popular destination during the pandemic.
How much does it cost to go to Mexico?
This is a recurring question and at the same time there is no single answer.
It depends of course on your budget, what you are willing to spend and for what kind of services.
If you want to stay by the sea in a spacious accommodation in a luxurious complex with a lot of all-inclusive activities, the price can go up quite quickly. On the other hand, it is quite possible to go to Mexico and spend very little if you don’t want an accommodation with a swimming pool for example or the proximity of the center of certain cities. In any case, there is something for everyone so that it is possible to spend between 1000 and 5000 euros per person without counting the plane ticket for a period of 2 weeks. As with everything, knowing how to find the best value for money implies taking the time to look for what is not always possible for everyone.
