The city of Coba developed near five lakes that were a fundamental factor for its development and subsistence. With an extension of approximately 70 km2, the city was connected by vast stone roads, known in the Mayan language as sacbe (white road), of variable length and width. The longest of these, 100 km long, reaches the site of Yaxuná, very close to Chichén Itzá.

The Riviera Maya has a large number of archaeological sites beyond Chichen Itza and Tulum, the most famous sites.

Cobá has nothing to envy them with its vestiges and its pyramid, one of the highest of all the Riviera Maya, not far from the site of Tulum.

Some hieroglyphic inscriptions found on steles and panels of the site allow us to affirm that Cobá was the original name of the city. One of the possible meanings, and the most plausible, given the proximity of the lagoons, is that of “agitated water”.

Lovers of history, you will be conquered by this site.

A visit to Coba is often combined with another activity to make the most of the day.
