What are the formalities for traveling to Mexico?

When you travel to a country other than your own, you have many questions about the formalities. We will answer all your questions about the documents you need to travel, if you need a visa and vaccinations. We reassure you that traveling to Mexico is not a more dangerous country than any other.

What documents and requirements do I need to enter Mexico?

To travel to Mexico, don’t worry, you only need to have a valid passport. No immigration documents are required.
It is advisable to have your round-trip plane ticket for the control at the customs. In the case of a one-way ticket, you only need to have a transport title attesting the exit of the future country. This can be a plane ticket or even a bus ticket.

You will also need proof of the place and type of accommodation for the entire stay. This is not always required in practice, but legally it is part of the formalities to be taken into account in case of further control.

For the customs interview, the FMM migration form, which cannot exceed 180 days, has been CANCELLED since August 2022. From now on, the passport with the entry stamp is enough to enter the territory. Be careful to take note of the number of days that the authorities will put you with the stamp because it is sometimes possible to have less than 180 days depending on the assessment of the agent on site.

At the airport, for the customs control, you must press a button which, if it is green, you will be able to leave without any search, and if it is red, you must be controlled.
When you are in the country, respect the length of your stay. No paid or volunteer activities are allowed during the tourist stay.

What is the FMM?

FMM is the abbreviation for Multiple Migration Form to enter Mexico. This document is only for Mexico. US and Canadian citizens wishing to travel to Mexico had to request it.

Today the FMM and no other immigration document, previously given on the plane, is not mandatory since August 2022. Don’t look for it anymore, you won’t find it!

Do I need a visa for tourism?

There is no longer a requirement for immigration documents and a short stay visa to enter Mexico. Only a passport and a round-trip air ticket are required. The passport must be valid for the duration of the intended stay.

The only mandatory visa was the FMM, multiple migration form, but now it is no longer required since August 2022.
